Wisdom House Is Different

All the perks of self-publishing, the high standards of conventional publishing . . . and it's EASY!
What more could you want?

Wisdom House Books is a publishing hybrid. We offer all the advantages of today’s alternative publishing, but our standards are as high—sometimes even higher—than they are at the six multinational corporations that now own almost all the imprints.

High standards and all, we know you want the experience of publishing to be as stress free and joyful as possible. You've come to the right place. This is turnkey publishing at its best. (Click here for the 9 Simple Steps to publishing with Wisdom House Books.)

Wisdom House Books will make publishing your manuscript easy and affordable. Our mission is to produce quality books that make a positive difference in the world. Whether you have an inspiring personal story, a spiritual message, a key to better health and well-being, or a new method for financial success, we will personally and professionally guide you and your book through the publishing process with care and integrity.

Our customers are valuable to us, and we let you know it by our friendly and supportive involvement in the success of your book. Sad to say, that’s almost impossible to find elsewhere in today’s book business.  But Wisdom House is different from the publishing pack in lots of other ways, as well.

Here are just three of our many advantages that you most likely won't find anywhere else:

  • The author gets 100% of all royalties.

You won't find many publishers who will give all the royalties to the authors, and we can't figure out why not. If you write the book and pay a fair price to have it edited and published, why should your publisher get any of the royalties? A book is kind of like a small business. You might go to a lawyer to set it up, and you would pay him for the service, but it's doubtful that you would agree to pay him a huge cut of your profits from that day forward. Why should your publisher be any different? Book sellers expect a 55% discount on your books. If you are paying a big chunk of your profits to the publisher, you will have to have to price your book out of the market to make any profits. That's why we let you keep it all.

  • You get your books at cost with no publisher mark-up.
This is a tremendous savings to you.  Most publishers will mark-up the cost and shipping of your books. We don't do that.  We set you up with your own account at the printer, and all you have to do is order more books.  They come directly to you or they're shipped to where you are speaking or your on-line fulfillment center.  There is no middleman to pay.

  • You set the cover price.
  • Books are returnable.*

Both of these advantages are extremely important because if you want bookstores to sell your books, they must be priced within the norm, and vendors must be able to return what they don't sell. It's highly unusual for a self-publishing company to offer these features. Why? Money. They have to pay for returned books. Likewise, the higher the cover price, the more those publishers make on each book. They know your mother and favorite aunt are sure to buy your books at any price, so although they cut out other buyers, they are assured of making a profit.

That kind of thinking just doesn't work for us. You wrote the book, and if you paid to have it printed, you should have all the profits, and your book should be available in bookstores. We think it's only fair.

"If the heart wills, the hand moves the fingers to write a book."
--Rumi

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore,
is not an act but a habit."
--Aristotle

"Throw your dreams into space like a kite, and you do not know what it will bring back - a new life, a new friend, a new love, a new country."
--Anais Nin

"By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; and by
knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches."
--Proverbs 24:3-4

"If human beings are perceived as potentials rather than problems, as possessing strengths instead of weaknesses, as unlimited rather that dull and unresponsive, then they thrive and grow to their capabilities."
--Robert Conklin

"Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great."
--Mark Twain

"We have to keep trying things we're not sure we can pull off. If we just do the things we know we can do . . . you don't grow as much. You gotta take those chances on making those big mistakes."
--Cybill Shepherd

"The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable man persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man."
--George Bernard Shaw

"The future is not a result of choices among alternative paths offered by the present, but a place that is created-created first in the mind and will, created next in activity. The future is not some place we are going to, but one we are creating. The paths are not to be found, but made, and the activity of making them, changes both the maker and the destination."
--John Schaar

Wisdom House Books Offers More

E-Books, Print on Demand (POD) and Offset Printing Are Available

You may not want to invest in a garage full of books, or perhaps you prefer sell your books through online distributors or your own Web site one at a time. Or you may be a motivational speaker who sells hundreds of books at each engagement, and you need books printed in cost-effective quantities. With new technology, our printers can produce one book at a time—or a truckload of books if needed—at lightning speed. It's your choice--or choose more than one or all three.  You decide the plan that works best for you, and you can add to or change it at any time!

Some other Wisdom House exclusive benefits include

• Seasoned, Professional Editors
• Covers Designed by Real Artists

The world of run-of-the-mill self-publishing is full of secrets. Did you know that some publishers use a machine to edit their books? So it's likely that their "editors" will never read a word you've written. Yet they have the audacity to charge you for editing.

And cover design? Many self-publishers use a cookie-cutter template, meaning the same employee designs every cover, whether it’s a cookbook or sci-fi. Sometimes the “editor” and "cover designer" are the same person!  (Click here to find out about the Wisdom House Books editorial department.)

If your book's cover and interior aren't professional looking, readers will assume that the content and its author aren't professional, either. At Wisdom House, we make sure that you have a professionally produced book that you (and we) can be proud of.

Here's another Wisdom House Books advantage:
You maintain 100% of the rights to your material.

There are publishers on the Internet who offer to print your work for free, but be forewarned: they aren't in the charity business. There is a catch—a big one. They take a huge chunk of your royalties, leaving you with pennies per copy.

Worse, should you be dissatisfied with their business practices, nonexistent editing, and poor cover design, you must fight them in court to get your publishing rights back. This is an extremely important factor, should you get an offer from a large publisher or a motion picture company. That offer will be withdrawn unless you own 100% of the rights to your work. Wisdom House makes sure the copyright is in your name—always.

We are a business founded on integrity and vision.

We realize that honesty and integrity have their own rewards. We need to make a living and pay our employees fairly, but we refuse to gouge our customers. We try to be as fair and transparent in our pricing and practices as possible. We want you and your book to succeed because your book is our image, too.

We also know that we create our reality out of our beliefs and focus. We believe in you and focus on your highest and best. What other publishers will tell you they devote part of each day to visualizing your success? At Wisdom House Books, we do.
